One Thing to Check This Month
Craft & Honest AnswersFree starter set
When to use it: The first week of every month — build the series, name it, keep the format identical.
The structure
- Line 1: "[Month] check, 2 minutes: [the thing]."
- Lines: where it is, what good looks like, what bad looks like — describable without a photo, or with one clear photo of YOUR OWN home/shop.
- Line: what to do if it is bad: the free fix first, then the "call someone" threshold.
- Close: "Series runs every month. Next: [next month's check]."
Guidance — read before you write
Consistency is the strategy: same format, same day, twelve months. Choose checks a homeowner can truly do in two minutes — credibility dies the first time a "2-minute check" needs a ladder and a multimeter. Never use a photo of a customer's problem for this series.
A worked example
"June check, 2 minutes: your water heater's pressure relief valve lever. Lift it briefly — water should run to the drain tube, then stop clean when you release. Dripping after? That valve is a $30 part now or a flooded utility room later; that one is worth a call. Dry and clean: see you in July, when we check dryer vents."
