The First Frost Checklist
Seasonal & WeatherFree starter set
When to use it: The week the first frost is forecast — not after pipes have already burst.
The structure
- Line 1: "First frost is coming to [town] on [day]. Three things to check tonight:"
- Numbered list: the 3 checks, each one sentence, each doable in under 10 minutes.
- Line: which check most people skip, and what it costs when they do.
- Close: "If you find [the bad sign], call us before [day] — that is a cheap fix this week and an expensive one next."
Guidance — read before you write
Name the actual forecast day and town. A checklist post earns saves and shares because it is useful with no purchase attached. Do not pad it to five items — three true ones beat five generic ones.
A worked example
"First frost hits Erie Thursday night. Check tonight: (1) outside faucets off and hoses drained, (2) the pipe run on your north wall — feel for cold spots, (3) know where your main shutoff is. The one everyone skips is #3, and it is the difference between a mop and a remodel. If a pipe already looks swollen, call us before Thursday — that is a cheap fix this week."
